Hi, Mommy Life Hackers!child rearing

Welcome to our wonderful site about parenting and child rearing – where we create Confident Parents in a Busy World.

My name’s Susan and I’m the creator of MommyLifeHack.com. Before you think… “Geez… not another parenting site”,just hear us out ’cause we’re definitely not just another parenting site.

Why I Started Mommy Life Hack

When my first born was just a week old I had HAD it. I knew that I’d be a walking zombie… but I wasn’t prepared for it. I just didn’t realize how torturous it’d be to have to wake up every 2-3 hours around the clock.

I went on amazon and got me the most popular baby sleep book that I could find.. ’cause it was gonna happen. I was gonna make that damn baby sleep like a 40-year-old single man with a job that he hated.

When the book arrived I tore it open just KNOWING that I’d get my old sleeping days back… And to my horror, my absolute freaking horror, there was this CRAZY 500-page novel sitting in front of me.

I mean, WHO THE HELL WOULD THINK TO WRITE A 500+ PAGE BABY SLEEP BOOK FOR NEW PARENTS WHO BARELY HAVE TIME TO WIPE THEIR ASS?!?

Apparently all authors of any parenting book that ever existed, that’s who.

But in my desperation, I read it… all of it. I don’t know how I found the time to read it… but I did. <====== Any desperate moms relate?

I read through all the sleep theories, sleep research, biological rhythm info, baby development info, the mothers psychology from sleep deprivation, the benefits of a good sleep, why we need sleep, why we shouldn’t miss sleep, the history of sleep, babies sleep cycles, sleep methods, the biography of scientists involved in the research and 3 generations worth of history about their families (kidding)…and the whole 20 pages of actual sleep training for my baby.

Don’t get me wrong… the stuff was good. It was ahhhhh-mazing! I never got to sleep like my pre-baby days but I knew how to put my baby to sleep, soothe him, watch for sleep cues, have a sleep schedule, and even though he still slept for a few hours at a time I felt confident knowing that I had the knowledge. Surprisingly, the knowledge alone just made me mentally stronger about the whole thing… it was pretty magical.

[Tweet “Confidence from knowledge is irreplaceable.”]

And I couldn’t stop thinking to myself… shit, I could’ve got what I needed in freaking 20 pages or less! Theoretically, that could’ve saved me about 10 hours of sleep.

Then, I started looking for parenting books in summarized versions… how to make a baby stop crying, healthy eating habits for kids, discipline methods, potty training, how to be a good mom, how to raise a confident child… but found NONE. Isn’t that just crazy?

‘Til this day I still read 200+ page books on parenting… and I’m exhausted. This mama wants to watch some Housewives, dammit!

Truthfully, I want to be the best mother I can be but I don’t have the time to read everything that I want. I’m a working mother of 2 that just moved to Panama from Los Angeles (Yes, Central America… that’s another story).

And then it dawned on me… what if other moms feel the same way? They want to read about all the parenting books out there but don’t have the time?

And so, Mommy Life Hack was born. It’s for modern, busy parents who want to learn and read parenting and child rearing books but have little time to read.

How To Use Mommy Life Hack

Have you ever noticed that there’re a million people trying to give you parenting advice… even from folks who don’t have kids and are single? That latter was from personal experience… (eyeroll).

Their advice is best and everyone else is an ignorant bastard who doesn’t know what they’re talking about, right? Just think about the advocates of breastfeeding vs bottle feeding, vaccine vs anti-vaccine, spanking vs positive discipline.

So, who the hell’s right?

Well… My parenting motto is, and always will be:

[Tweet ““Do what’s right for your family and screw the rest.””]

They say that there’s more than one way to skin a cat… So it goes without saying, there’s more than one way to parent a child. But in the world of parenting, I find that people tend to get stuck on one strategy or method and try to force feed that method down their families throat.

What worked for one family might not work for yours. I’ll even confidently say, what worked for your child today might not work for them tomorrow! I know from experience.

With MLH you can browse through the crazy amounts of parenting topics in lightning speed, test out the methods you want to try and if that method doesn’t work go back and read other methods at lightning speed, and choose the one that’s right for your family… from day to day.

We’ll chunk down the information so parents can consume it in a short period of time. ‘Cause… who the hell has time to read a 500-page book on putting a newborn to sleep?

If you said, there’s no way I have time to read a 300-500 page parenting or child rearing book, than MLH is for you!

How We Write Our Content

I have my personal opinions on issues but I’m not completely firm on one or the other… I parent fluidly, I zig and I zag.

I prefer positive discipline but don’t rule out spanking. I understand that co-sleeping isn’t the best sleep method for Western Families but I LOVE having my babies sleep in my bed (sorry, hubby…).

No parenting or child rearing topic is off limits for us.

  • From positive parenting to responsible spanking.
  • From breastfeeding to formula feeding.
  • From cry-it-out to no-cry-it-out sleep methods.
  • From potty training with no underwear to potty training gently

There are many ways to achieve a parenting goal so we try to cover every strategy for a given topic.

Let’s take putting a baby to sleep, as an example. There are multiple ways to get the baby to sleep. There’s cry it out, no cry sleep solution, and partial cry it out. We will find every strategy there is for putting a baby to sleep and clearly give you directions on how to do each and you can decide which is best for you.

Then we rinse and repeat for every other parenting topic on the market.

As I’ve said, only you know what’s right for your family and lifestyle so you should be the one to determine whether you let your kid cry it out or not cry it out to sleep.

The Good, The Bad, And The Raw…

I’m just gonna get a little cozy up in here and get a little real. We will write about every parenting and child rearing topic under the moon… you may agree, or you may not. If it’s not for you, you can just skip to other methods but please don’t start WWII up in here.

At the end of the day, whether we know each other personally or not, motherhood is a silent sisterhood that bonds us all together in spirit. We’re all here to support, not judge or criticize.

So in the spirit of sisterhood, may your parenting journey be filled with “Hell yeah’s” instead of flipping off your child when their backs are turned.

If there’s a specific topic you’d like for us to write about, please let us know in the comments below.
